Detour is a map of places recorded as abandoned in public open data. It is a reference, not an invitation. Nothing here is a statement that a place is safe, unowned, or legal to enter.
Entering an abandoned structure is trespassing in most jurisdictions, and derelict buildings routinely kill people. Floors give way, roofs collapse, shafts are unguarded, basements flood, and asbestos is common in anything industrial built before the 1990s.
You are responsible for your own decisions. Find out who owns a site and get permission before entering it. If you are not certain a place is safe and you are allowed to be there, do not go in.
Do not use this map to plan trespass, theft, vandalism, or entry to any site that is occupied, guarded, or in active use.
When you add a place, a photo, a rating or a review, you confirm it is your own, and you let Detour publish it on the map and on this site, including in the paid map. Places added to earn free access are checked, and access can be withdrawn if a place turns out to be copied, invented or not abandoned. You can ask for your contributions to be removed at any time.
Most of the data comes from open records, and most of it has not been checked on the ground. Entries may be inaccurate, out of date, or refer to buildings that no longer exist. Positions can be wrong by tens of metres or more. Treat every entry as a lead to check, not a fact to rely on.
The imported layer derives from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors) and is offered under the Open Database Licence. Other sources are used under their own open licences, and honouring them is a condition of reuse.
