Projeto arquitetônico de Ramos de Azevedo, inaugurado em 1908 como Colônia Correcional do Porto das Palmas. Transformou-se em presídio político entre 1930 e 1933. Funcionou como presídio de segurança máxima até 1955. Em 1952, ocorreu uma grande rebelião.
