This long-abandoned croft shares part of its name with the nearby College of Scalan (from the Gaelic 'sgalan' meaning a rough shelter). Clash derives from 'clais' - a trench or furrow. The similarly abandoned farm of Wester Scalan can be seen in the middle distance.
