On the south-eastern (near) side of Cardross Road is a gorse-filled hollow, visible in the foreground of the present picture, which was taken from the higher ground overlooking the pit. It is an old sandstone quarry. Before it was overgrown, it would have looked like the one shown in [[4439584]],
