Die Sputhmühle wurde von Robert Sputh 1882 als Holzschleiferei erbaut. 1892 meldete er das Patent zur Herstellung von Bierglasuntersetzern an und so fungierte die Sputhmühle als weltweit erster Produktionsort für aus Holzschliff hergestellte Bierdeckel.
