It is by no means unusual to come across a once beautiful but long abandoned "Big House" in Ireland, but my first reaction on glimpsing this magnificent building for the first time was one of amazement. This huge Italianate style house was built in the late C18 by Frederick Trench, 1st Baron Ashtown
