Fort Clinch

The U.S. acquired the land between 1842 and 1850 for a military reservation. There are indications that the Army constructed additional improvements at the site to include gunnery emplacements, docks, barracks, hospital facilities, and other miscellaneous improvements. The site remained active until 1869 when the Reservation was abandoned and the Garrison withdrawn. Personnel at Fort Clinch State
