The Infirmary, as it used to be called, was established by the Wayland Poor Law Union (formed in 1834) in an area known as Cakes Hill or Cades Hill. From about 1939 to 1945 the complex was known as Attleborough Emergency Hospital for Services Casualties and Sick, and in 1948 it became part of the
